Mother, Slayer of Demons, Time itself - Kali is the first of the ten Mahavidyas (Great Wisdoms) embodied by the Divine Feminine in Vajrayana Buddhism and Sanatana Dharma, more commonly known as Hinduism. Wild and fierce, she is an unstoppable and transformational force. Despite her overwhelming power and often terrifying appearance, she is a benevolent mother who wouldn’t raise a hand against you. Her love can guide and empower you to take on life’s challenges and emerge all the stronger and wiser.
Kali - The Dark Mother
Her name derived from the Sanskrit “kala” meaning “black”. She is the great cosmic void, infinite in size and wisdom. The colour black is associated with the guna (nature) of tamas (ignorance, inertia, laziness). She encourages you to offer those thoughts and habits which don’t serve you up to her instead. You may even be given a divine swift kick if you need to get yourself in gear! Most importantly, she’s your mother and will always embrace you.
Kali - Slayer of Demons
Just as she slayed the demons Chanda and Munda, she can vanquish any negativity haunting you. When the other gods were then overwhelmed by the mighty demon Raktabija, Kali was the only one who could defeat him. If your problems seem to multiply and smother you, call on the Divine Mother to conquer them!
Kali - Time
As the old adage goes, “time heals all wounds”. As the embodiment of time itself, the Divine Mother is the source of strength and courage to heal and move on. Nothing and nobody can defeat her. Even those who harm you will be reduced to naught over the course of time. However, it’s equally important for your ego to remember - you will be, too.
